You all know I'm a long-time poster here, I have no affiliation with this place at all, but had to share an experience I just had. El Dorado Cantina--WOW! Amazing food... I mean some of the best I've had in the city and I can't believe I haven't found this place before. They specialize in authentic dishes made with local-grown/farmed ingredients. Their menu lists vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free items. The downside: it's literally attached to the Sapphire gentlemen's club on Industrial Rd., so if that turns you off, you've been warned. They share the same parking lot and we parked next to a car with the license plate "Mandiee". The restaurant itself is surprisingly nice though. Well decorated (dare I say "classy"?) and the service was great too. A wee bit pricey for Mexican food, but well worth it. Portions are large and I had to take half my meal home. Don't miss the mexican corn as a side... delicious! I have no stake in this place at all, so I'm not advertising or anything, but I thought some of the other foodies on here might appreciate the tip. You know who you are. It's rare that I'm surprised by a place. Enjoy.

If I recall, we had discussed Mi Casa (my current favorite) on another thread. How do you think it compares, portion and flavor-wise?

I've know this place for a while now. It is hidden and not many people talk about it. The food is very good and is probably one of the best in the city.

Is the club next door any good? Could make for a good evening of entertainment.

I love Mi Casa too, but this place is better. I'd give Mi Casa a 7-8 depending on the dish, but this place is an easy 9, at least. (The only 10 I've ever given is Agave Grill on Grand Cayman) The carne asada at El Dorado is great. They serve chips w/ 3 kinds of salsa as soon as you sit down. The green one is just like the one at Mi Casa. The red is very rich and tomato-y and the orange is a spicy habanero salsa... not too spicy though. Other than that, I think the freshness of the ingredients really makes a difference at El Dorado Cantina.

Yep. I think the strip club literally next door scares some people off, but it really shouldn't. Plenty of security everywhere.
