This is far from scientific, but I looked at Match.com to see if what people were saying was true.

I started with the filter looking for Women aged 25-30 who live 20 miles from 89052. There were 1347 matches.

I put forth 4 criteria: (1) doesn't have kids, (2) has never been married, (3) has a bachelor's degree, (4) makes $35,000 or more. Here's how it played out.

Social Criteria:
- 859 don't have kids (64%)
- 1075 have never been married (80%)
- 765 don't have kids and have never been married (56%)

Economic/Educational Criteria:
- 455 have a Bachelor's Degree or higher (34%)
- 378 have a $35,000 salary or higher (28%)
- 160 have a Bachelor's Degree or higher AND $35,000 salary or higher (12%)

Someone mentioned San Diego. I ran a search from a zip code there (92037) for comparison's sake. To get the number under 2000, I did a 15 mile radius and got 1644 matches.

Social Criteria:
- 1439 don't have kids (88%)
- 1465 have never been married (89%)
- 1347 don't have kids and have never been married (82%)

Economic/Educational Criteria:
- 1059 have a Bachelor's Degree or higher (64%)
- 470 have a $35,000 salary or higher (28%)
- 350 have a Bachelor's Degree or higher AND $35,000 salary or higher (21%)

What did you conclude from that?

Keeping in mind the high probability that people lie about themselves on the internet (especially in a online dating profile), I was still surprised that 72% of singles females under 30 in San Diego make less than $35,000/year. That is not a livable wage.

And while 64% of them have a Bachelor's Degree, they likely have student loans attached to it with a salary that won't allow them to pay it off.

The Las Vegas cocktail waitress who gets beaten to death in this forum, who doesn't have student loan debt and doesn't have a high cost of living, is in a much better situation financially than the San Diego resident with debt that can't get a high paying job.
