This is some of the limitation of Smart TVs - you basically live with the apps it includes. Personally, I'd rather have a separate device where I can configure & upgrade it (see below). Ironically, I have a Smart TV with great 4K apps & HDR; it just happened that the OLED TV I got came with them (if I could've bought the TV without them I would have). In general terms, I'd rather get the best display I can & focus on spending savings on a good streaming device.

Sunday Ticket is no longer a DirecTV specific thing - they've opened it up to multiple platforms. Even if you had it on your TV you'd still have to pay for the service. You can get it on Amazon FireTV, Roku, Chromecast, XBox One, PS3 & PS4, etc. It's also available for some phones & tablets. I believe the limitation is you can only be watching one game at a time with these services.

If memory serves, you mentioned having a Fire Stick at the locals meetup; there is a Sunday Ticket streaming app you can download & install. I'd still have the same recommendation I had at the time, tho. Get the FireTV box instead of the stick - although the stick is convenient, it can get bogged down when you load a bunch of stuff (like Kodi) on it. I have both the stick & the box. The FireTV box costs more but it's worth it - and I always want to save a buck. It's not much bigger. You get a quad core processor, more memory, expandability, wired ethernet & Alexa voice control, among other things. It also does 802.11ac Wifi (faster). It supports 4K while the stick maxes out at 1080p. What does it all mean? Faster, more expandable, easier. Plus it runs Kodi well if that's your thing.

There was a recent revision to the FireTV stick with a quad core (vs dual core) processor, but it has the same memory & networking limitations. You can also get a version with Alexa voice control but it costs extra.

I have a friend that swears by his Roku & it's a great streaming device. I just happen to prefer the ability to customize & configure the FireTV, it's a great device. Hardcore people often want a generic android box so they're not tied to Amazon. FireTV works for me, but all are reasonable options. To each his own.

I see the cord cutting culture growing every day. Used to be when you turned on a smart tv it when straight to TV (cable or satellite) and there was a button you pushed to go to the smart tv apps. Almost an afterthought. We recently bought a Hitachi Roku based TV that boots to the Roku home screen which contains a ton of apps (that you can add to by installing whatever you want) and TV, DVD/Blu, Game console are merely among the viewing options. No more or less important that Youtube or Hulu. Just struck me as a jarring but inevitable switch.
