Hello and thank you for your time to read my post and hopefully answer some question I have.

Where is the best place to live ?

I was looking at Henderson and Summerlin my budget is 800$ for rent but I would do 1000$ if it was a house or somewhere with a yard that allowed my two dogs.

I will be going to school for cranes, excavators and dozers and was wondering how the construction industry is out there ? would this be a good place for my type of work or should I try somewhere else ? My home state it snows 4-6 months of the year so that means no money.

I like to be kind of outside of the city but not to far to where its a pain to drive just to get to a mall or grocery store.

I would also like to be somewhere near a college so my wife can start going to school and not drive to far for a job. ( she doesnt like to drive and isnt very good at it) lol.

I believe my income would be around 3500 a month and then whatever my wife brings in right now thats 600-1000 a month.

Right now we live in San Diego we spend 1500$ on a 700 sqft Apartment around 150-200 a WEEK in groceries and 300$ for car insurance and about 300 $ or so in gas.

Thank you again and hope to get some good feed back if you need more info to better help me then let me know!

You need to come for a visit, rent a car, and stay away from the strip. Don't even LOOK at the strip. Come in July.

You'll have a much better perspective.

Oh, and $800 won't cut it. Not in any desirable area.

I recommend that you stick to Henderson, NV, it's right next to Las Vegas and it is safer...for about $1000-1200 you can find a nice rental, BUT if you want a big yard, they are practically non-existent here in LV...so go with an older model, they tend to have bigger yards.

While Las Vegas in general is cheaper for real estate compared to San Diego, prices have gone up from 2-3 years ago so no houses in nice areas for $1,000. With your $1,000 budget ($800 won't get you enough for a couple and 2 dogs anymore), I would stick to Henderson over Summerlin. You'll get more bang for your buck since there are some neighborhoods between awesome and sketchy where you'll get best value in Henderson area versus Summerlin which is more expensive and then seems to drop off into North LV pretty quickly. My experience had me drop Summerlin from my search quickly due to prices.

Car insurance should drop coming from SD (not sure what cars you have) but car registration might give you sticker shock especially on newer, nicer cars but you save on state income tax so it's probably a win overall vs San Diego. Gas is cheaper here than in the SF Bay Area but not sure how compared to SD area.

If you are looking for value, I would recommend checking out the SW area. Around Blue Diamond and going south you'll get newer and newer construction and the area is pretty nice (just my experience). It's a little quieter than some parts of Henderson and on Blue Diamond, you have access to 15 and 215 giving you options to get to different parts of town quickly. (All just my option as someone living in this area. I originally wanted Summerlin or Henderson but after searching, there are safe and good value areas in the SW.)

Good luck. Come in the heat of summer to see the worst of it. Should be 116 on Mon/Tues! The dry heat coming from NYC is awesome but not sure how it is coming from SD...climate capital of the US!
