I'm not in Vegas, but I got an exam at Walmart for $89.00 a couple years ago. I just checked the walmart site and they said $85.00. I think that's as low as it's gonna get. You don't have to buy the contacts there, but it's gonna cost $ to get that 'script.

I agree that Walmart or Costco will probably be the least expensive place to get an eye exam. However, one thing to keep in mind is that optometrists are independent and do not actually work for Walmart or Costco.

I'm not certain whether they are bound by contract to charge a set price for an eye exam that is dictated by Walmart or Costco or not. I've heard that the doctor (optometrist) can charge whatever he or she wants but would also think that they'd want to be competitive so would assume that they'd keep the cost of an eye exam as low as possible. I'm sure somebody here can clarify my assumption.

The optical department, however, I believe is owned and operated by Walmart or Costco so the opticians and support employees work for Walmart or Costco. Therefore, I assume their prices for glasses or contacts themselves should be comparable from store to store.

So it may be that an independent optometrist operating inside a Walmart or Costco vision center may have different prices for an eye exam from store to store ...I don't know. But it may be worth calling and checking various locations nevertheless. However, like the others responding, I'm pretty sure it's still going to cost in that $100 range and most optometrist tack on a small extra charge to a routine eye exam when contacts are involved.

If you are satisfied with your prescription and the type of contact lenses you are using, then I don't blame you for wanting to pay as little as you can for an exam or prescription renewal.

But if your former optometrist is willing to renew your prescription for no charge, why not let him do it? However, since your prescription has expired, it may not be ethical for him to renew the prescription without an exam. I believe a normal (daily-wear-type) soft contact lens prescription is good for two years (eye glasses are for five years). I also believe that prescriptions are good from state to state as long as they can be verified.

As far as getting another optometrist anywhere to "just rewrite" the prescription, I don't believe any will do that for you for free.

Thanks for replies. I'll try Costco and WalMart. I know it won't be done for free but I was hoping $40-$50 would be enough for a rewrite of an old prescription. I guess I will just stock up on a ton of contacts this time around so that my $100 exam lasts me a while. Thanks!

Just ran into this site as I was looking for something else. Two places list an eye exam for $65. One is Sams Club (as has been mentioned) on Serene and the other is Dr. Larry L Davis on Charleston. I have no idea how up-to-date these prices are but you can at least call and see:

http://www.okcopay.com/directory/bas...as-vegas/89128

http://www.okcopay.com/results/basic.../89128/0/12/15

But again, they may tack on a small charge for contacts. But give them a call and see.

eta: ooops, it looks as if an eye exam for contacts is more additional than I thought.

Sams Club on Serene $100 ...click here

Dr. Davis on Charleston: $115 ...click here

...but again, call and ask or explain your situation to see if you really need a contact exam since you are not new to contacts. That additional price may be for new wearers only.
