I've heard rumors that car insurance in LV is incredibly expensive. True? Or is this only in the Strip area? How about registration fees?

Insanely expensive. I have never paid less than 200 a month here.

There's a lot of variables that come in to play. What year, make and model of vehicle are you driving?

2-year old Camry.

And if I were to move to the area, it would probably be NW or Henderson.

Yes, it'll be expensive since it'll still be considered brand new and it's worth over $15K. I would guesstimate about $300-$400 for full coverage. My suggestion is to pay the whole car off and get liability only.

As is the case with so many things, the answer is 'it depends'. Do a search for numerous threads that have previously addressed this to get more detailed information.

Synopsis from my point of view: Expect to get quotes ALL OVER THE MAP. I have a clean driving record & great credit, my recent quotes have ranged from $240 for a 6 month policy up to & above $1000 for 6 months. Currently I pay $250 for 6 months for 50/100/100 liability, $1000 ded collision & $100 ded comprehensive. I may well drop collision soon as my car is several years old & fully paid. Personally, I've been fine with insurance here as it costs less than it did when I moved from Chicago.

My mom's in Minnesota, she happened to get a great rate with AAA (under $500/yr, about $40/mo.) When I quoted with AAA on her recommendation, they told me $940 for 6 months! (Almost 4 times what I'm currently paying.) Apparently they've assessed Nevada differently than Minnesota.

Many things may affect your premium - driving record, what part of town, annual mileage, is the car garaged, credit score, how the insurance company actuaries see (southern) Nevada. Take the time to shop around, my guess is you'll see a huge variance in rates.

Use the NV DMV fee calculator and get very close to what your registration fee amount:

https://dmvapp.nv.gov/dmv/vr/vr_esti...tioninput.aspx

Car insurance? Varies by location, driver record, vehicle, credit rating, coverage....FWIW, my rates went up 7% coming from San Antonio, TX. 2014 model year, full coverage.

Both are expensive.

My husband has no problem switching car insurance companies when they raise our rate. We just had to change again last night. They always give the same excuse "Oh it's the area" Alrighty then, time to go shopping.

That's pretty cheap, you do have commercial insurance, right?

Insurance premiums depends on a lot of factors like driving history, zip code, credit rating, the type car driven.

It also depends on the degree of insurance coverage that you have. Cheap no frills coverage will cost less but will cost you more when you get sued.
