I heard all those kitschy old motels on Fremont were bought a few years ago by Tony Hseih/Zappos and something was going to be done with them. They have now been boarded up and fenced off for years and it doesn't look like anything is happening. Looks kind of trashy.

Anyone know if there are still plans for them or what is being done with the properties?

All I heard or read was that there was a fire in one of them and squatters and tweakers had infiltrated them.

That's the only part I don't like downtown. Last I read years ago was that the downtown project was going to start focusing on developing the residential areas to bring more foot traffic downtown since they'd already built up a lot of little businesses there. The first project was Fremont 9 and that's new construction that's completed recently. There was also an airstream park and other designs under consideration.

The next thing I read was Tony Sheih was moving and wrapping up shop for lack of investors and seeing some of their successful start ups flee to more prosperous areas, or they saw them flounder. Only a couple dozens flourished and remain. Then the story changed to he's not leaving just maintaining and focusing on other things like the restructuring of Zappos. So I don't know anymore what's next. Haven't kept up with it in two years.

Just sit on the properties and let them increase in value until somebody is interested in doing a project.

I was looking around on YouTube to see what's come up about the downtown project lately and I came across the new hotel casino going in called, Circa.

And the Downtown Grand Hotel is adding a third tower, but neither are the Downtown Project.

No updates I can see on the shuttered motels. The latest article is from two years ago and has a little map of those properties. It's like I thought. Fremont 9 and The Air Stream park are the only two since then. There was also another bar opening.

TDP page doesn't have any new updates press wise so it sits.

Ok, it took awhile but I sourced this news from 8 months ago.

Looks like the city is taking on those properties that are bordered up as part of Project Enchilada. No kidding that's what the city calls it and it includes the downtown project in a larger downtown area they want to revitalize. The news video has the map of expanded borders. They also talk about Fremont 9 and those motels all the way to 14th.
