Hello...

My husband is a plumber and things are very slow here now (Milwaukee Wisconsin). His Union has mention Las Vegas needs plumbers, but we are not sure about packing up to move our family.

I am wondering if Nevada is a Union state. By this I mean are the unions strong? DH has to stay in the union for a couple more years to avoid paying them back for school.

What is the work situation really like out there?

Thank you for any feed back regarding this.

The unions are nowhere near as strong as they are in Wisconsin and Michigan (though there's no work in those states, so their strength really doesn't matter...). The only projects that the unions generally get involved with are the projects on the strip and any large highrise projects around town- any office buildings, shopping centers, retail, etc., are generally non-union. You'll also find projects where there's a mix of union and non-union companies on the same job, which never happens in many other states.

Regarding whether it's a good move for you or not, I'd contact the local hall and find out what theie workload is, and how many positions they've got open. I'd also look at the scale, since it's probably considerably different from what you're used to.
