Amazon's Zoox driverless cars are now shuttling Amazon employees on a 1-mile stretch of public roads around the company’s Nevada office. Company web site with pictures.

Uhh that's ok. We prefer to have a person in the driver's seat for now.

Several decades from now, the technology will have progressed to the point where all vehicles have real-time telemetry monitoring, talking to each other continuously - even vehicles with a human driver.

I imagine the car of a future inebriated Henry Ruggs (the former Las Vegas Raider who drove his Corvette at 156 mph before slamming into a car driven by 23-year old Tina Tintor & killing her) will "talk to" all the other cars telling them to get out of the way, possibly averting a multi-car collision.

Indeed, I look forward to the time when anyone driving recklessly discovers their car takes control to slow down... or they automatically are penalized with crippling fines & traffic tickets.

And that drivers without drivers licenses or insurance discover the vehicle will not start.

all vehicles talking to each other only works for NEW vehicles. those of us who prefer to drive older vehicles won't have to worry about it

Yes there is Waymo? in SF, CA which ran over a dog and there were some other incidents with these driverless vehicle/automonous vehicles.

I would rather keep control of my own vehicle. If not then someone else ( a human) can drive me. We are always skeptical about these computers and smartphones from what they were to what they have evolved to thus making us dependent on them. Now we have artificial intelligence to deal with.

Default Good news on a small scale

Went to the Terrible’s car wash off Sunset and there was a car ahead of me so we waited while he finished up.
He then started walking toward our car and I wondered what’s going on now?
He just wanted tell us he had 14 minutes left on the timer and thought we’d like to use it.
It was more than enough time to get our car washed.
I wanted to post this to show there ARE some nice people in the world and we happened to be lucky enough to find one last Saturday.

If I recall, there used to be. Just start a new thread and label it something like “Las Vegas Photographs”.
