The financial world blows up due to a lack of regulation and you think it will cause a move away from statist government? Some libertarian are delusional.

Default HUD loans are the free market?

olecap is showing the typical lack of understanding, even among those who are suppose to know, like Paulson. Which is fine, because it just means the wrong actions will be taken and make houses and the economy even worse. I am in money markets after selling my stocks and house for a big gain in 2005, so I'll buy after the free market is destroyed (in 10 years maybe) and ready to come back to what America used to be. FREE

Or the Messiah BHO will make it all better.

olecap if you look at the thread Condo v House in early 2006 you told someone instead of renting a condo its best to buy, and you gave another person hell for insinuating that MSN knew more about the real estate market than you did.

Might just a touch of humility be appropriate here?

buying vs renting is better, however the choice between buying a condo or a house is obvious

On the contrary, Americans embraced the Phil Gramm "greed is good", "let the foxes run the hen house: philosophies and are now paying for it.

I was unable to find any condo house thread circa 2006. If I told anybody to buy anything in 2006 I was lkely wrong.

I do know vastly more about the local RE market than MSN. Hell I bet they can't even find Silverstone Ranch.

And I pride myself on my extensive humility.

I thought that was Gordon Gecko.

The reasons for the meltdown are many and come from both sides of the political isle. I like to blame it on the over-arching reason of a sense of entitlement of far too many Americans. And one thing I know for sure is that socialist ideas like those coming from Paulson, Pelosi and Obama are sure to mire us in a mediocre muck for many years to come. Our politicians have stopped representing us (9:1 against the bailout package) and wil continue to grabb for money and power until they not only destroy American capitalizim but freedom itself.
