My daughter will be graduating college soon and looks to make it in the entertainment biz. Any groups out there in need of a shot in the arm with a great vocalist?

She will be available in the spring after she graduates college. Thanks

Does anyone in here know anyone in Vegas who is in the entertainment business? My 22 year old daughter will be moving to either Nashville or LV this spring after graduating college.

Rents and nice safe nighborhoods are important as well.

I am working ahead trying to maybe get her a job as an entertainer by cutting through all the red tape. For a possible Vegas act you can check her out on CD Baby and go to "alm".

Song one A Part of That shows her (show tunes) style. On myspace you can see her country/folksy style. go to "jiltedloversband" and the song Another Day is Lost".

As a father, any work she can get for fair pay would be considered. Thank you.

NOTE: I am not promoting my dayghters CD's in here. I am wanting those who are looking for a female singer for gainful employment to let me know. She is moving and needs a job. I am here looking for a job in your city for my child.

Thank you

Don't mean to discourage...but since you've now posted twice...I would think it to be a very long shot to land a permanent gig by posting on this forum.

Also, check out the classifieds at http://www.lasvegascitylife.com.

Other suggestions: get the number for Zia records and ask if they can give you the names of all the music-related publications in LV, then check out their respective online sites. Check out the different musical shows at the hotels. The ones that are free to the public--like the Pirates of TI show outside Treasure Island each night-- are probably easier to audition for/get a role in.

If you don't mind my asking, what is the college's career-placement center doing to help? Aren't they giving your daughter any networking guidance? Have you asked your daughter for her input, or are you trying to surprise her with a job prospect?

Anyway, good luck to her!

Hi Julia, ask away. The college she attends will help her out with a teaching job, but not a job as a full time recording artist/entertainer. I have told my daughter I am trying to get a feel for what rents are and the cost of living. I also mentioned I am asking around to see if any bands are looking for a female singer.

She doesn't mind, but ulrtimately everything is her decision. I am just helping if I can.

Perhaps, but I would rather be lucky than good. Maybe I run accross someone on here that is connected in that industry. The only thing 100% for sure is I will get no response if I don't try.

Everything else is a crap shoot, but a chance non the less.

Davey, allow me to chime in here to explain the music industry crystal clear since I traveled down to Nashville from Chicago at 20 years old to attend Belmont University majoring in music business then started up my own artist management firm dicovering and building up several bands since.
The music business is just that first and foremost a business. It's all about the cash. If no one can't make a dime in it, no one tries it. What I mean here is that no band is going to take a chance on a budding artist unless she has had some success even minimal. There's serious and I mean very serious competition out there to do this line of work.
To be truly marketable, your daughter must be able to compose music and write lyrics. She must be able to play an instrument, She must have a God given talent to sing. Anyone can learn how to sing, but successful multi million dollar platinum singers are born with the ability then just develop it finely. She must have some knowledge about the actual business itself. I sugest picking up reading material from Amazon.com, Barnes And Noble, or Borders that explains the music industry from the business point of view. Otherwise, if not, she'll be taken advantage of while the guys behind the scenes get rich. Elvis Presley is said to only have made a fraction of what really came in but his manager the Colonel was the fat rat.
Why did she choose Las Vegas? It's a place for experienced, already successful artists who tour in daily because of the expansive listeners from around the world. Artists like this becase it's easy to show the world their music without having to tour the world literally. But no casino/hotel/resort is going to book a no name. Sorry to be crude but it's reality. The music industry does not base itself inside Las Vegas but rather in New York, Los Angeles, and Nashville primarily. A few artists have been discovered in other cities as The Killers have been discovered in Las Vegas, but you have to do some serious touring of nightclubs, lounges, cafes, auditoriums, malls, etcetera to build a following. After building a following of loyal fans, and selling albums and merchandise direct to those fans via your own website, mail, or at the concert itself, the music industry will take notice and offer whatever your daughter wants.

P.S. She needs a press kit. Press kits will get you everywhere with nightclub/lounge owners, newspaper journalists, artists and repertoire representatives, booking agents, and personal managers. Not having a press kit is like going into an interview without a resume. Press kits contain a black and 8.5' 11" photograph, a business card, a biography, a fact sheet, and most importantly a CD of music she's already recorded to listen to on the spot.

Very awesome advice, we will put one together. Thank you.
