I keep thinking I'm getting raked over the coals everytime I pay my electric. I'm trying to figure out what's using so damned much electricity.

I was comparing my bill from OC to here and was suprised to see that the KWH charge is higher in CA, but I'm paying 3x the amount here. 2600 kwh seems like a lot of hours, what are you guys using?

I'm not home all day running the AC, no pool, electric hot water heater. Avg bill $350 for one person. By comparison, my office which is the same size ~4000 sq ft + 6500 warehouse w/ swamp coolers, AC blasting 24/7, computers never turned off, etc is about $160 a month.

What gives?

I paid approx $300/mo last summer with AC set at a constant 78°, $100/mo or less other months on average. 3300 sq ft one story with someone home most of the time. I just had a pool installed, so those figures to go up.

See that seems more realistic. I'm in a two story, but I cant even remember the last time I went upstairs. I never turn on that AC unit.

That bill seems way too high for the conditions you stated aggro..did you call NV Energy? Maybe then can send someone over to check your meter?

I called them and they told me that's normal and to turn off the breakers one by one to see what's using all the electricity. I tried explaining the baseline was too high but they countered with the fact that in the winter, with the heat, the bill was $475 and it was ONLY $375 last month...meter must be rigged.

Is your place all electric? No gas stove or dryer, all electric heat?

Do the math. You're consuming an average of nearly four kilowatts an hour, every hour of the month. 4kW is what an electric oven consumes when the element is on, or a 3 ton AC unit, running constantly.
