Please advance the following suggestion to lawmakers and policy people. We need your help.

It would be fair and also a way to screen out some bad actors by requiring prospective immigrants to serve in the military, emergency unit or public service. People could be given temporary visas to serve--say, at least 10 hours per week, for a total of, say, 2000--5000 hours, depending on their specific circumstances. Once they complete the service requirement, they could be give permanent visa.

I am an immigrant and would have agreed to serve the U.S. before getting permanent residency.

It would also be fair to require 2-3 years of required military or social service for all American citizens and residents.

Perhaps better in theory than in practice. All jobs these days in western countries have many legal and skill requirements and at least here in Australia, and I would think the US, would require a sound level of English.
