Maybe it's just here in Florida, but I believe if an immigrant here in the Florida marries an American, that immigrant automatically becomes a US citizen in 3 years(?) A long ago friend of my hubby married a young woman from Brazil, but she was living here on a work visa I believe. Also, didn't some of our military during WWII marry foreign women? They were allowed to bring them here and they were US citizens, although I don't know if a process had to occur for them to become citizens or if it was automatic.
Ditto too to what AZBear said.
Becoming a citizen is not "automatic" after 3 years of marriage.
Like Bryan said, first she would apply for permanent residence, it could take a few years for her to get her "green card". After being a resident for several years (5 years, 3 years or 1 year for military spouses) she can apply for citizenship, this could also take a year or two.

Immigration authorities also would want to investigate why such a beautiful Mexican woman would want to marry such an obviously nerdy American. Just kidding. It is illegal, though, for an American to marry a foreign national just for the purpose of getting them American citizenship.

Maybe the beautiful Mexican woman hadn't been exposed to many American men and didn't realize he was so nerdy. lol
NO, The next step is to apply for her permanent residency. No visa required
No she can not even get a legal Visa to come to America. She can not even visit. They say it is almost impossible to even get an appointment to get inside the American Embassy in Mexico City.

This is a myth, I've been there several times, to get my visa and to renew it as well, is not that hard if you have proof of your income (a credit card would do) if you already have a visa it's even easier, they don't ask you anything you just get it.
