We are a young family looking to buy a home in Easton and are/were considering buying a home in the West Ward. We've noticed that there are some beautiful grand historic homes in the neighborhood but they are not selling and the prices keep slowing creeping lower. What problems in the area are keeping these beautiful homes from being sold??? Any replies or advice is greatly appreciated.

I think West Ward goes from 6th-15th st, north of the river and south of route 22. The 15th st is the boundary of the city.

There was a highly publicized triple execution style homicide on 128 N 13th street on November 29, 2007, involving the Bloods and the Crips. That home was sold at public auction for $60K in 2009, and the buyers have been unsuccessfully trying to sell it for about 2.5 times the purchase price.

I don't know if the West Ward in Easton has been doing worse than most of the urban housing in the Lehigh Valley. Your description seems sort of typical.

Default West Ward (Easton)

The West Ward is taking a lot longer to "come around" than other areas of Easton. The neighborhood you are referring to ( 14th and Northampton?) has some gorgeous houses...they are well kept, sweeping lawns, etc. Those streets are absolutely safe. That neighborhood is strange in that it isn't very "walkable" ( as opposed to Downtown) and is surrounded by some sketchy areas.
I am a good ambassador for Easton, as anyone who has read my posts knows! I bought a beautiful 200 year old single family house in Downtown, having moved from suburban NJ. I love my neighborhood. There is a real sense of community here and I feel safe. We looked at the beautiful residences in the neighborhood you are talking about and decided that we wanted to be able to go out the door and walk to everything. I believe that those houses are truly a bargain, and Easton ( ALL of Easton) will eventually turn around.
Hope this helps!
