I am wanting to get out of FL and really like what I see of Lehigh Valley so far. But something really surprised me the other day, I was talking to someone at work here who recently moved from NJ close to LHV, he said there are no smoking bans in PA people can smoke most anywhere.

Is that true?

Even VA has bans now so that seems a bit odd these days.

He is grossly incorrect in his statement to you.

This is from the PA Department of Health;

The Clean Indoor Air Act, Act 27 of 2008, was signed into law on June 13, 2008. The legislation prohibits smoking in a public place or a workplace and lists examples of what is considered a public place. The bill allows for some exceptions, including a private residence (except those licensed as a child care facility), a private social function where the site involved is under the control of the sponsor (except where the site is owned, leased, or operated by a state or local government agency) and a wholesale or retail tobacco shop. It also imposes penalties for those establishments in noncompliance, as well as those individuals smoking in prohibited areas.

Please read for further reference;

This should stop your co worker from "" blowing Smoke "" concerning this subject.

He may be referring to bans like the one in NYC that prevents smoking in parks and close to building entrances?

Or maybe bars still allow smoking in Pa? Not sure about that.

Yes, the casinos having smoking and no-smoking areas, but there isn't any separation and the smell/smoke is pretty indistinguishable from one to the other.

I've only been in the Sands Casino in Bethlehem and I could tell a difference in the areas. I think the rule for bars is that if they serve over a certain percentage of food then there is no smoking allowed. SOOO glad! I am very sensitive to smoke and was very glad when the ban was enacted several years ago.Bill would broaden Pennsylvania smoking ban - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
