Buy a small cape cod or ranch in Hellertown for $150,000. It's Saucon Valley School District which is good and you'll be probably 15 minutes or less from work. You are going to be paying at least $3,000 a year in taxes on this house and won't save much by buying a house elsewhere nearby. Don't bother with the Poconos. It's a long ride, the schools are questionable, as are many of the residents who came to there from NYC. Lots of foreclosures and not a good place to spend your money. Any money you save will be offset by gasoline costs and wear and tear on your car.

The $150,000 price limit and desire for a detached house limits you to small houses on small lots.
