My husband & I are living here 6 weeks now & went to a new doc (I won't state his name because this is only my opionion & other's may LOVE him). But, his bedside manner stinks, he doesn't look at his patient while in the exam room, he focuses on his laptop w/ your chart in it, which he lays on the counter & he keeps his back to you. He glances every once in awhile your way, but never smiles (well once for my husband), he doesn't seem to like to be asked questions as to why he's doing something as far as changing meds. He's been in practice 32 years but I don't like his style.

Can anyone recommend a doctor that LISTENS to their patients, LOOKS at their patients, TRUSTS their patients know their own bodies, is OPEN to ideas their patients may throw at them that they hadn't considered? We live outside the Allentown area
. Thanks!

This Dr. sounds like a real jerk. I reccomend Drs. who are into holistic and natural remedies and do not overmedicate their patients. I reccomemend Dr Maulfair in Topton. Read the Awakening Health magazine that is available free at many retail outlets for more possible listings.

I agree that the natural health magazine is an excellent place to look. Dr. Maulfair is a controversial figure, however. I have heard good things about Woodlands in Quakertown from a friend, although I've not gone there personally. Also had good experience w/Muhlenberg Primary Care with my family members.

I hate to categorize this doc as a jerk....he just isn't very good with adults I believe. I've heard great things about him as far as dealing with children & finding correct diagnosis'. Also, he just may not have "clicked" with me, I tend to push & ask questions & I'm not sure he liked his authority questioned. I went in the exam room with my husband, (since he's got some complicated medical issues) I believe it's always in the patient's best interest to have an advocate with you. So I tended to jump in (not interrupt) when my husband would forget to mention something or I would ask questions my husband didn't. I don't think the doc liked it, he wouldn't even look at me. He's an older doctor & I believe some (not all) older doctors are pretty set in their ways. And yes I prefer holistic whenever possible & I am searching for other docs, someone that I will "click" with.

I received an email that showed a message from a certain someone that tends to have a rep on here for posting doom and gloom all the time. I'm not sure why it's not appearing on this thread but the message implies that "someone" didn't get their pain meds & that's why that "someone" is not happy with this particular doctor. (I've copied & pasted & changed the font color of the comment I received below. I have chosen to leave out the person's name that posted it, he/she can choose to identify themselves).

I'd like to clarify a couple of things:
#1- I'm not on pain meds, the strongest I take is Advil for a headache when needed. I originally was hunting for a doc that would prescribe my Armour Thyroid; a more natural form of thyroid replacement & this doc (with no personality or bedside manner) DID indeed prescribe the natural form for me.
#2 - Ironically, my husband WAS prescribed pain pills, two different kinds which he didn't expect, neither did I. Because this doc had a reputation for more of a natural approach we chose him & had hoped he'd be more aggressive in treating my husband's chronic medical issues. But, instead he has given my husband these meds, which he wanted an alternative to. He has referred him to two specialists, which obviously will prescribe more meds.

Unfortunately, the pain pills are a necessity so he can go to work & do his very physical job. But, even more importantly the QUALITY of his life, which in turn effects my life, is poor right now. We are both too young to live like this. We both feel that there has to be someone out there who will aggressively search for the reason & cause of his pain instead of prescriptions as the answer, or referrals to more doctors whose answer is another prescription or more surgical procedures. And I'm sorry, pot is not the answer we're looking for, as was suggested in a different thread about chronic pain.

A good chiropractor is one doc we are hunting for but my husband has some additional medical issues at hand here that require an MD or DO or NO. My husband has been on chemo, steroids, all sorts of pain meds...you name it they've tried it on him. He's just worn out from feeling like a guinea pig....

So, no, sorry to disappoint....this was not a quest to find a doctor that would "just prescribe pain pills". This was and is a quest to find a doctor that will search for the answer, guide, support & listen. If you know a doctor like that then I'll gladly look forward to your next comment.
