London mayor Boris Johnson has said he hopes this weekend's Notting Hill Carnival will "help heal wounds" left by the recent riots.

Mr Johnson urged revellers to "let the true spirit of London shine through" at the annual event.

Well he has to say something. I am all in favour of it going ahead although i'll be missing this years being the other side of the world,although probably wise to close earlier.

Not sure either about the remark "help to heal wounds" issues are very real for a lot of folk on all sides that a two day street carnival will solve little in the grand scheme of things.
