I must be missing something - I always thought that "bussing" refers to students being bussed from one school district to another Certainly not the case here...
You can call it what you want, but the purpose of it is to integrate the schools. One of my HS social studies teachers (at Huntington HS) told me that they were given the edict in the early 70s to start bussing kids. Don't call it bussing, I don't care. There was only one purpose for it. And it's why - even though I never moved - I went to 3 different elementary schools, and the schools were K-6 and then K-5 when I was a student there.
