I know both of these towns pay private contractors to plow during snow storms cleaning up intersections after the big boys go through etc.
Has anyone done this? What do they pay? What are the insurance requirements? Who pays for fuel? Can you count on getting work when it snows or are you going to wait around and then screwed over because you don't get called? Do you have to accept the work every time it snows or can you choose when you work?
Lots of questions.....sorry- was just thinking about trying to consider doing this to make some extra cash if I am available during the winter. I have a full size plow and pickup- but no sander.
We've looked into this with Brookhaven. You are paid a set hourly rate depending upon your equipment. You have to file paperwork with the town, have your liability and auto policy paperwork for them. Gas/diesel is the responsibility of the owner/operator. You are given a set route.
