We were looking into some suffolk towns that would be commutable for him. We are looking in the 290-340K price range. I have 2 daughters ages 10 and 12 so a good school district is important. We have looked into Selden, Nesconsett, Centereach, Lake Grove, Lindenhurst (where we currently live) and Medford. We would love a little property, nothing big ofcourse with the amount we have to spend, good schools, maybe a nice town atmosphere. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
It will be a hard commute from out in Suffolk to Glen Cove because besides going west, he will have to travel to the far north of LI.

However, your price range isn't going to do much in Nassau especially if you also want what could be considered "property" instead of just a lot. Although with price drops maybe you can find something south shore Nassau and then he'd only have to go north. Is this your first home? Do the both of you work or are you a SAHM? If you are a SAHM would you be willing to go out to work so you could afford more? Does your husband work for a private, parochial or public school? (I am guessing he is not working in a unionized public school due to your price range being at the bottom although of course I could be wrong.)

I'd look at East Northport. It is part of the Huntington Township.

There are no townships in New York State.

East Northport is a hamlet in the Town of Huntington.

NYS Geographic Glossary may be of some help in understanding the geography of "Lawn Guyland".

[quote=zulu400;16330117]Check with Walter first.... what if you purchase the house and then realize that its a hamlet and not a town ?
It will be too late.
