I see gas prices average around $3.35 - $3.39 on Long Island, but was shocked to see regular gas at Mobil selling at $3.79! Premium was $3.99.

Where the heck do they get off ripping us off like that? Who in their right mind would go there to fill up?

It's ALWAYS Mobile. I never use them! Why pay almost $4 for regular when I can get gas for at least 50c less many times right across the street. I really don't understand why anyone would use them at all. Ridiculous.

Go to the other guy.

I do find these differences in price strange. For years you could drive all over the island and gas everywhere would be within a few cents from the next guy. I wonder why this has changed.

Was just reading that the unrest in Egypt will likely result in increased gas prices across the board, especially if it intensifies or spreads

Has nothing to do with supply and demand.

It lies with the speculators.

Don't know if Valero is doing something fishy, but paying cash will get you a 8-10 cents break per gallon.

Retail gasoline prices tend to be at a $0.75 to $1.25/gallon premium to the wholesale gasoline price as traded on the New York Mercantile Exchange, which would mean that a wholesale price of $2.50/gallon would indicate a retail price of $3.25 to $3.75/gallon, depending on where in the U.S. the retail pump might be located.

If you pay cash, they pass along the savings from credit card swipe fees to the customer.

I know you are probably an expert on this and put a lot of time and thought into that awesome post. But what do (WTI) Light Sweet Crude Oil Futures being in contango tell us about the supply & demand outlook and where prices may be headed? I didn't know it "lies with the speculators". Care to elaborate?
