It's very unusual to be this intense - typically just strong t-storms in NC. Charlotte was spared from the same system that blasted the Triangle. Been a record breaking year for NC tornado touchdowns already! I got hail from the system before this past one.

Weather has been whacky.
Seriously Kid

I got friends down there who got beat up pretty good near the shore.
I really didnt know NC even got tornados.

Glad you guys are ok

My sister is down there and had a tornado hit down the street and about two blocks away! And she thought they'd be "safe" being in a sort of hilly area. Not so. I think the Lowes they mention on tv is close to her.

Problem there is that a lot of the homes (or is it all?) don't have basements. They may have a crawl space, like my sister. But she has to go outside to get into the crawl space. She said her 80' trees were whipping around in circles. Luckily she had no damage.

I appreciate that. I would feel the same in reverse.

It's my 3rd year down here counting being up in Mooresville... This is by far the worst I've seen to the previous 2 years combined - and it's only mid April. I believe the stat was previous record 18 touchdowns in one year and there's already been like 80 state wide this year. I've had several instances of very bad t-storms through the years. There's no way to properly describe seeing the insanely black area on the horizon putting on a huge light show. It's nuts.

When we had the hail on the last storm, my wife had the kids in the downstairs bathroom. I was trying to time between cells to make a run for the movie theatre. =)

For those who've relocated and don't know, Weather Underground's Wundermap is by far the best resource. You can track each individual storm, see its intensity, and track. Don't drive.

RDU area here. Some wind and rain. It missed us by miles. Great spring weather now!

Were putting together a map of the tornado tracks...i'll post it when it's done. This was an exceptionally large outbreak...among the largest in the last 30 years. There are tornado signatures that extend over 200 miles, which almost never occurs (even in the Plains).
