MacArthur REALLY needs to get another airline like jetblue. Now that Southwest stopped offering direct flights to most places from their I am stuck going to jfk and using jet blue.
I only can use macarthur now to go to florida.
As is always the question with Long Island politics: who is getting paid off to allow Southwest a monopoly over Islip Airport? I'm not sure whose jurisdiction it is, but I guarantee you someone is getting their palms greased by Soutwest to keep other airlines out of there.
Likewise with Verizon not being allowed in Brookhaven....someone wants their palms greased or is getting them greased by Cablevision, count on it.
Anyone remember when you had to walk outside to board your plane there?
Sure do! I remember my 2-year-old waving to me from the terminal window as I boarded the plane. This was in the area just beyond what is now the security point.

Yes, that area that used to be circular and we could run around there all day and no one would say a word. We'd stand there watching planes take off.
This was before they even built the extensions from that area.

Yes! When my kids were little, we sometimes went over there just to hang out for an hour or two and watch the planes take off. There was a place you could pick up a bagel, and the restrooms were down that little staircase....

What a different world we lived in then.
Yeah try going down that staircase when people are coming back up. lol.
Those bathrooms were tiny.
Then there was that restaurant upstairs. Never saw it packed so not sure if it was any good.
The road that goes by the airport where the two and four seaters are kept, there used to be an area where you could park your car and watch the planes take off. Is that still allowed?

I don't know if it's exactly allowed, but I go there sometimes. The parking spots are for the flight school and NY Jet (I took flying lessons there). I think if you hang out by the fence too long, security will probably kick you out.
