Default Did it 10-15 years

I worked by Grand Central station and used to commute on the LIRR every day from Baldwin and hated it so much I just decided to pay for a monthly garage and drove in.

I now work in my firms LI office and it's a 45 min drive on the SSP/135/LIE. I love my commute now and wouldn't take another job in the city even if my salary increased 25% just by going into Manhattan.

Until I win lotto, I have to work. My work is in Manhattan. Working is better than being unemployed. Riding the LIRR beats driving. As a result, I commute to work everyday on the LIRR with a total commute time of about 3 hours. While it might not seem like living, its what many of us do to support our families.

I commute daily into midtown...been doing it for about a year and half? Doesn't bother me at all...as a matter of fact, I'd rather sit back and relax on the train instead of sitting in bumper to bumper traffic

I do not take the LIRR, but during rush hour I thought a lot of the trains were packed to the hilt and you had to stand most of the time?

Or can you get a seat pretty easily now?

I don't think I would be able to take more than a 1.5 hour commute.....so to those people who do it all the way out from Ronkonkoma, my hat is off to you....
