Driving along Rt25 I pass several gas stations and notice the average price for regular is in the $3.85-$3.89 area.
Yet the sign at the Mobil station show regular for $4.59.
I never see anyone at that station (Centereach) filling up, so why don't they feel the need to be competitive?
I don't understand that either. I see the once in Centereach and Mark Tree Road have cars in it quite often and there is a gas station across the street that is at least .20 less. Why would anyone go there?
This is the case with every Mobil I see. Can they be staying open selling lottery tickets, beer and cigarettes? The only time I've bought gas there was right before Irene when 2 of the stations near me ran out of gas...and then I only put enough in to get me to the next bunch of stations where I spent 50 cents less per gallon. I don't get it.
ExxonMobil makes most of their money from selling crude, not gasoline or convenience stores. They push their retail gas stations to keep prices high to juice profits on the actual crude oil.
