Default North Fork

I'm trying to convince my DH to look at property on the east end of LI. My family still lives on the island and it would be nice to spend summers there (spouse retired).

I realize the Hamptons are hugely expensive but am wondering about other towns near water. How does Greenpoint look? What other towns are there on the North Fork that are worth considering?

i think you mean greenport, its a lovely touristy town. pretty big popualtion of illegal aliens compared to other north fork towns. try jamesport or southold, or if you really like solitude east marion. use MLSLIdotcom.
Good luck

We have lived in the Laurel/Mattituck area for a little over a year now on the bay side. I truly enjoy living here. One can still find frogs and turtles on the lawn at times. Spring is here when the osprey arrives. The bay water is usually a beautiful blue green. We ride our bicycles or walk on Peconic Bay Blvd, Laurel Ave and all the streets in between enjoying the bay or the farmland scenery. We once bought cabbage for 50 cents while on our bike ride from three small children manning a farmstand. Everything is a walk or a bike ride away from where we live - Veteran's Park beach, the Yacht Club beach, Love Lane, ice cream parlors, local eateries, the Mattituck-Laurel library and the Waldbaums shopping center to include a movie theatre. An added bonus - the wineries, restaurants and the farmstands are a short drive away. The only downside is that the area is changing - progressing as some would say. Our family is here for a short time due to my husband being stationed in the military and we've seen a lot of changes in the past year. Hopefully, the rural charm will stay. We've lived in several states and overseas and there aren't many places like this. It's a real charmer.

Any town on the North Fork is solid. My faves are Mattituck, Cutchogue, South Jamesport and Southold. All have nice areas, whether you're looking for a relatively new house or a quaint old home. Love Lane in Mattituck is nice, though it could use a nice restaurant or quality watering hole.

I love the East End...Hamptons and NF for very different reasons. Love the wineries, farms, the whole vibe out there. I really hope that the land can be preserved ASAP b/c once it's gone...
