According to WCBS, "Governor Andrew Cuomo outlined his vision for a 4 million-square foot convention center and hotel located at Aqueduct Racetrack during his State of the State address today."
What effect will this Convention Center and Hotel have on potential Coliseum developments?
In a few years the Islanders will no longer be playing there, and the ToH will be stuck with a big white elephant that they cannot develop because no one wants to pay off Kate Murray and the other ToH republicans to build there.

Coliseum development = oxymoron.
TOH Repubs = total morons.
Too bad the NHL has no place else for the Islanders to go. I'm guessing somehow a watered down renovation plan will emerge on the backs of the taxpayers. Regardless, Kate will be there with a hard hat and a shovel (or a 7$ hot dog and a $9 beer) claiming victory for Hempstead Town.
Any private development will be too ambitious for TOH. Any private development that doesn't include a mall or 55+ apt complex is ALWAYS too ambitious for TOH.

Quebec? Although there might be a team or two ahead of the Islanders in the relocation line.
People from out of town generally want to be in close proximity to Manhattan. I'm curious if Aqueduct is really the right place for a huge convention center.
Back to the OT, I don't think this will have any impact on what happens at the Coliseum. Something at Belmont, however, would be a different story IMO.

I don't think any potential plans for the Nassau Coliseum are in competition with this facility, as in "But Nassau wants to build the exact same thing! How dare they beat us to it!" However, I'm wondering what effect it will have on all of Long Island in terms of accessibility to the "outside world" because of the effect it will have on the Belt Parkway. The Belt Parkway is already overclogged with traffic. If they add this huge facility right off the Belt Parkway ... what will that mean for the traffic? Plus, the Shinnecocks are also hoping to make their own casino at Belmont ... right off the Cross Island Parkway ... which is right off the Belt Parkway. Would traffic be like it is the Belmont Stakes everyday all year round? Will the Belt Parkway become "walkable" (as in all the cars are at a standstill because of too much traffic and you need to walk around them to get anywhere)? Usually I don't go all NIMBY and stress over traffic, but the traffic on the Belt is already quite formidable just about any day of the week or any time of day. Even the weekends are racked with traffic coming in/going off the Island via the Belt.

Instead of relying on cars and buses, they could have a special express service on the A train.

They could have it, but will enough people use it instead of cars and buses? Who wants to schlepp luggage to a hotel, casino and convention center on the A train? They cannot force people to use the A train.

Yes, Phoenix will almost certainly end up there before the Islanders.
Any large-scale development at Aqueduct better include some major infrastructure improvements... Belt Pkwy near JFK is one of the worst traffic areas I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. If the Isles were to move there, I can't picture myself going to to many (if any) games. Sure beats Quebec, or Kansas City, or Vegas, or Portland though...

Apparently, the Governor envisions replacing the Javits Center with this new facility in Queens. If that's actually what's on his mind, I can tell you one immediate effect it will have: a tremendous waste of money, given that the #7 subway line is presently being extended to (who would've guessed?) the Javits Center.
