Hey all,

I'm digging out about 10 million root balls in our backyard, and the whole area is really uneven. Saving some bucks by getting those stumps out ourselves, but I wanna call someone in to level the yard....has anyone does this? is it pricey? Any suggestions on keeping costs down? TIA!

Consider having a specific number of yards of dirt delivered to your house and then doing the work yourself. I know it is not what you want to do but it will keep the costs down.

you can...... the walk behind ones have a reputation of being dangerious. The big ones I remember being pricey and possibly the rental people were a little gunshy in renting to an inexperienced person.

We had a masonary porch and a lot of bushes taken out to put in a front porch along with other construction. This created a really sandy messy hole ridden front lawn, as well as a depression in the back lawn.

We had a masonary contractor do our front walk and 3 steps to our porch. I asked him to basically do what you were asking, drop top soil, grade the front flat, and add soil in the back where the bushes were taken out and level that. After he did that, I added peat moss, and greass seed and the lawn came out great. He used his bobcat

it was the best money I spent, the soil was at the right level for the path, and nice and flat, I don't think I would have done nearly as good a job. beofre you ask, I don't really know how much of the cost related to this, as we had him do the other two parts of the job.

be wary of the free fill, etc. unless you have HUGE holes to fill. Fill does not = topsoil, it is not what you create a lawn from
