I know this is a common question, so forgive me for beating a dead horse. We are a two mom family with 7 kids moving to LI from south Georgia. 3 of our children are African-American. We are looking for a more diverse, progressive place to call home. Suggestions? Places we should absolutely avoid?
Your budget, school and house expectations are just as important as where to live. Do you need to commute to NYC, how many bedrooms do you require, and do any of your children have special needs, etc.?
If you would consider Suffolk then I would strongly recommend Bay Shore (Village of Bay Shore). I recently lived there and there are tons of interracial couples and families. Schools are fairly good with a lot of offerings and many neighborhoods are affordable

Agree, that sets the tone of a location even before being "progressive".
Transracial family? That means you're a bi racial family that consists of blacks and whites but you identify as Asians? There's too many terms to learn nowadays.
Anywhere....... Your budget will determine what area however but Deer Park and North Babylon are great mixed neighborhoods with a mix of liberal and progressive households. Move on my block. I will come over with fresh baked pie to welcome y'all.
Interracial couples are fairly common on Long Island. Gay couples with children are less common. However, if you go way out east (Sag Harbor, East Hampton, etc), there are many interracial gay couples with children. Many even work in the city (not usual 5 days a week, but however they do it, it works for them)
