Not a bs post. Transracial refers to our adoption of children that are not the same race as we are. 2 white moms, 3 black children, 4 white children. We have adopted through foster care. We will both be working on Long Island so no commute to the city. We are both educators, one in higher ed and one in special ed. So we can't pay big bucks for rent but between 3000-4000 a month. There are plenty of homes in that range, just wanting to get a sense of the more progressive areas. And trust me, as someone from the south, progressive really does matter.
Hi. Transracial just refers specifically to our adoption of black children by white parents. It was called interracial adoption back in the day but the terms have changed. Bi-racial would mean that either us or our children had parents of two different races. Our family is an unusual one - mostly because of the size! But any information you could provide to help us out would help!

Sounds like you're looking to rent. With such a large family, I'm guessing you're looking for at least a four bedroom house rental. Not that many available in your price range, but further East is probably your best bet.
There's one in East Setauket, Three Village schools and not far from Stony Brook University. Area should work for you.
Interracial couples are fairly common on Long Island. Gay couples with children are less common. However, if you go way out east (Sag Harbor, East Hampton, etc), there are many interracial gay couples with children. Many even work in the city (not usual 5 days a week, but however they do it, it works for them)
There are people who commute to NYC every day from the Hamptons? Seriously, this is a fact?
OP, what's your ideal commuting time and in which county do you and your partner work? People have given you good advice here. Further east you get more house, more property, lower prices.
Because of Rachel Dolezal's stupidity, most people now think that 'transracial' means changing one's own race.
This was my assumption of what transracial means.
OP, interracial families are everywhere. I would suggest finding a neighborhood that has less senior citizens. The only times I've ever had an issue was older folks making some comments.
LI is not Georgia, and I think it's socially liberal, pretty much. Most of us here have two main priorities:
1) Can the family afford the property taxes/mortgage or rent?
2) Will they be good, quiet neighbors that get along with people?
Keep in mind LI'ers may have priorities that you may not be used to. They may do a headcount of your kids and calculate the costs to educate them. Around here it costs the schools $25K and up to $40K per child, per year to educate them. Doing the math, your family will cost the schools a minimum of $175K ever year.
Sorry to reduce your kids as a bunch of numbers, but please understand the property taxman rakes us over the coals pretty hard on LI. Nothing personal.

Well said, about school costs (racketeering/cost shifting) <-BTW; The hamptons have cheap taxes by LI standards in relation to dollar of home value btw. Its because there are few full time school children against a large total appraised value.
The correct town for such an eclectic bunch resides outside of LI; Ithaca comes to mind
