Has anybody been over by Hofstra today?
Security is real tight-- I drove down Hempstead Turnpike, and there were low flying helicopters, police checkpoints, cops standing at every corner, and pedestrian barricades.
Earl Ovington Boulevard is closed completely, and Hempstead Turnpike is closed to commercial traffic. It also looks like they may be closing some side streets off Hempstead Turnpike.
No one should be driving down HT today for any reason other than in an emergency and even then it had better be in a police car or ambulance with the expectation of being stopped.

Exactly. My husband said he wondered what it was going to be like over there today. I told him don't bother heading that way, since there's no reason to go that way anyway. I'm in Franklin Square so I'm hoping there isn't too much helicopter action tonight.
Hofstra is known to have been very active in political studies and a family member of mine is a grad. I will agree that it is a feather in the schools cap to have hosted it twice BUT.......
That said, I am not sure of the overall effect. Certainly, no student is going to "want to go" to Hofstra based upon the fact that it hosted the debate. Bragging rites don't amount to much IMO.
Yes I am sure the Marriott is enjoying a brisk business and probably the Garden City Hotel, too, but some of the eateries and bars on Hempstead Turnpike are none too happy with the debates.

Coupled with the well received Presidential Conferences the school holds, this does add to the school's reputation as a stand out in the area of Political Science.
