Lancet is right, though, News 12 is regional (like Cablevision) so Verizon (which is national) has little to gain from engaging in a big legal battle for a small fraction of their customers.

Lancet failed geography since News 12 covers Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, and parts of Connecticut and Jersey. This isn't any other region in America. This is the most populus in the entire nation.

That may be true, but that doesn't automatically make us the center of Verizon's universe

Again, Cablevsion uses News 12 as a selling point for their services, so it'd be a very contentious and expensive legal battle with no guarantee of winning. Plus, isn't News 12 owned by Cablevision? If that's the case, it'll never happen.

Cablevision owns MSG. They own the whole Garden yet since last year they gave up and Verizon Fios also broadcasts MSG in HD. Verizon made the claim since Cablevision broadcasts to MSG HD to Comcast and Time Warner, they had a right to it as well. So the same reasoning applies with News 12.

MSG broadcasts exclusive content that nobody else can carry, News12 broadcasts news that can be seen and heard in a dozen other places. The same reasoning does not apply.

Cablevision offered MSG HD to Time Warner and Comcast whom by the way offers NY 1 to the few minor areas in the city Cablevision serves.
Verizon sued to get MSG HD because Cablevision offered that service to the other cable companies. Why doesn't Verizon try again and sue to get News 12 for all the markets they serve?
Cablevision doesn't offer News12 to other companies as far as I know, just like TWC doesn't offer NY1. I have TWC and we do not get news 12.

You're describing a situation where Cablevision isolated Verizon, but gave programming rights to other broadcast companies (ones that were less of a threat). In the case of News 12, they don't let anybody use it. After all, their slogan is "Never on FiOs, Never on satellite" There actually is a difference.

It does and here it how it goes. Most of Westchester and LI has Cablevision however there are pockets where TWC is present. Anyone in Westchester or LI that has TWC gets News 12 and NY 1. People in the 5 boros that get TWC do not get News 12. Only exception are some people in Brooklyn and Bronx that have Cablevision and get News 12 because there is a News 12 tailored for them as well

If that were the case, then some Knicks games wouldn't also be broadcasted on ESPN or NBA TV in the New York area.

"Some" as in "barely any" - the overwhelming majority are shown exclusively by MSG, ditto for the three NHL teams carried by MSG. There is no comparison.

Barely is just enough. Either you show them or don't show them at all.

If someone throws a rock throw a window, whether it barely hits or is a direct hit, it doesn't make a difference. Once that rock makes contact, that's all that matters.
