Wow, what a thread... or what this thread had become!

I grew up out here and when I think back to my summers as a teen and even in my early 20's, LI had so much more to offer. Although there was a ton of development back then, it's nothing like it is now.

I agree with those who believe there's a whole wide country out there, where it costs a hell of lot less to live and where there's more to recreation than hitting the mall to spend whatever is left from the property tax bill.

The one disconcerting factor about the future here is how all of the municipalities and many school districts are crying poverty. I look at my present property tax bill and can't believe the county, the town and the school district have no money. Which means tax increases... big, dirty property tax increases.

I absolutely agree with Peconic... Life is too short to live in a place that you don't at least enjoy somewhat.

I think its safe to say that if you are into shooting guns freely, racing your 4x4 truck, making open fires and camping in the woods then Long Island is not for you anymore.

I enjoy all those things except the racing. But those things alone doesn't keep me from leaving.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to S.I.B. again.

I believe LIMA has already alluded to the superiority of the southwestern Georgia backwoods as an ideal place for himself.

Indeed, LIMA has already let the cat out of the bag:
