Taxes in Syosset are generally higher than Jericho and prices in Jericho are generally higher that Syosset. But on paper, Jericho schools are higher ranked. Some properties in Jericho, especially the East Birchwood section has their kids paying Syosset taxes and attending Syosset schools.
Aren't those residents paying higher property prices because they live in the town of Jericho and also pay higher property taxes because they attend Syosset schools?
The schools are only "better" due to slight demographic differences between the two places. It has nothing to do with taxes or funding.
There is a relatively decent sized part of Jericho (in the East Birchwood neighborhood) which is zoned to Syosset schools. So you pay Jericho taxes, Syosset home prices and get Syosset schools.
Jericho schools are ranked higher yes. But I can't imagine it's much of a difference. If your child is hard working and your family values education, your child will probably go to a similar college no matter if they go to Jericho HS or Syosset HS. The difference is Syosset is a MUCH larger school and has a lot more diversity (in every way), so there's a cohort of kids that just aren't cut out for school that basically don't exist in Jericho. Special education students in Jericho SD are also frequently sent to Syosset because it's a larger program.
You cannot go wrong with either if education is your top priority. Both can be pressure cookers if you're concerned about that though.
I remember the taxes in both towns were ridiculous back when I was house hunting in the early 2010's, can't imagine how much they are today.
