It's in the Locust Valley School District, which is excellent. Oh, and there is absolutely no crime to speak of. Also, look into Oyster Bay village. I'm not sure if it's still middle class, if it's still affordable, but it's definitely gay friendly, safe, and a great place to raise a family.
OP commutes to NYC. I did that commute for six months and hated it!!!

Both my father and grandfather made the commute into NYC from the Bayville/Glen Cove/Oyster Bay area for many years, so it's definitely manageable.

No one said it wasn't "manageable" and I was referring specifically to Bayville (which is why I bolded it). My in-laws have lived there for decades and I actually lived there for six months. Most commuters I know would rather not have to change at Jamaica in the morning and at night, every single day, especially when the trip takes over an hour (changing trains will do that).

People commute from Rocky Point and further out; so yes, it's "manageable". That doesn't mean people like it. Why shouldn't the OP hear other people's opinions and their experiences?
