I live in Bellmore. Flood insurance does not cover lawns and landscaping. My wife and I went through our savings and a good part of our retirement accounts to get our house back in order. The Flood insurance money doesn't cover everything. That being said, we thatched, seeded and watered all of last Summer. You know what grew? Crabgrass, dandelions and some weeds I can't even identify. The soil is not receptive for grass seed. The Clean and Seed program was supposed to fix that. New top soil for everyone who qualified. Where does all this money go? It would be a help if the county just threw us all a few hundred dollars to cover expenses (soil/seed/fertilizer/etc.). To the poster who claimed if you can't afford the $100 (what neighborhood do you live in?) you probably cant afford the house. I bet you were totally unaffected by the storm, other than some inconvienence. I good part of my neighborhood is still empty.
I was affected by the storm but, thankfully only positively. I however have close family that was completely devasted and rebuilt with only the 30k Fema one time payout, no insurance. Its all a matter of how over your head you were at the time of the storm. I also know several who took their insurance checks and renovated their home throughout, not just affected areas. I also know people who got big insurance checks and pocketed the majority. Regardless, this program was a waste of money they should have used to fix roads that everyone can benefit from then a small percentage of the population.
I had a scheduled appointment for this program, what is the reason it was cancelled, and why it wasn't cancelled previous to making appointments. very angry over this.
Originally they canceled it as FEMA stopped funding it. Now Ed Mangano is trying to find another way to fund it so slim chance it will start again. However, Ed said any work paid out of pocket will not be reimbursed. So meaning unless you are willing to wait till next Spring you are SOL and it may not even happen next Spring
Its a good thing this program was cancelled. All the seed would be travelling down the road in many neighbors the last 2 days with the coastal flooding. Now if they used that money to build some new sewers, bulkheads....raised roads, then it would make sense.

How is one positively affected by a devastating storm?
