Aside from the article Bellakin posted, Metro-North trains have padding on the back of the seats (I guess Westchester heads are too dainty if a train stops short). The LIRR M7s don't.

As high as the fares are on the LIRR, you'd think we'd get padding!

This always amused me. Aside from train to train impact, there is no 'stopping short' on a train.
On the LIRR these pads would just be something else for loser kids to slash.
