With it being only a little more than 7 weeks away, it's time to start planning Columbus Day. Besides parades, what other special events occur on LI for Columbus Day? Any special brunches?

We usually open our presents on Columbus Day but this year I'm thinking we should do it on Columbus Day Eve? What do you do?

Do you put up lights or a blow up Christopher Columbus in the front yard?

On Columbus Day Eve, I make sure I put the sign on our door, "We are Italian- We DO NOT celebrate Columbus Day" so all those pesky neighborhood kids stop ringing our bell with those Indian costumes asking for lasagna.
