Residents, Lawmakers Have Questions About Pending LI Mini-Casino « CBS New York

They won't disclose where it's going to be located. I'm in Levittown and I'm worried they put it right around the corner from my house across from the newish Walmart Market. My property value plummets and my taxes most likely stay the same or go up, and all the goons in charge get big raises.

Thoughts?

Well, you know they're not going to put them in any wealthy area and definitely not anywhere near the "North Shore" or "Gold Coast of Long Island"

Look at the bright side, it will bring jobs to people in your neighborhood who may have been out of work.

They'll probably be either somewhere like Levittown where they are closed down strip malls or empty lots. They're not going to put them in a congested area like Rockville Centre.

When are they supposed to be opening?

That Kmart shopping center you speak of needs *something* but a casino certainly would make traffic hell there along with what you mentioned. Really there's no good place to put something like that - someone has to suffer.

My bet is part of the Nassau coliseum redevelopment. Or long beach.

What closed down strip malls in Levittown?!?! The old Kmart building is leased by Home Depot. Everything else is being developed (Ford, Zwanger Pesiri, Dairy Queen, Saf T Swim) at warp speed. I can't imagine Kate letting a casino in her hometown, not without a pile of money I don't think Mangano can find. Then again, who knows. Money and politics make strange bedfellows.

What msarran said is exactly what I thought and I'm in the same neighborhood. They have to accommodate 1000 parking spots, so im not sure that lot is actually big enough, but that is the first thing that came to mind. I read elsewhere it might be a part of Bellmont Park (nassau side), and the Coliseum sounds feasible, but even so.. hard to say with the closed door, hidden decisions being made in NY. Business as usual. I've heard the old Kmart is leased by HD and was taken to prevent Lowes from opening. Even so, 100mil for the 'undisclosed' property is a lot of coin.

Lowes is around the corner in Hicksville. Why would they want that spot in Levittown? It's barely 5 mins away. Is HD really paying to squat there? Its a pretty depressing sight honestly. A couple larger restaurants there would be nice. Cheesecake Factory does well everywhere. Hell, even an IHOP there would.

Default Remove trees & bring in gamblers

Is Mangano purposely trying to destroy Nassau County? I mean, does he know his political career is already ruined by supporting Cuomo and then putting up scam cams all over Nassau County thinking us stupid morons would just sit quietly and pay our tickets while nodding our heads to his "safety" program? Then he gives contracts to people to run all around Nassau County taking down gorgeous trees that took decades to grow and are precisely what makes surburban neighborhoods beautiful under the guise of "safety". Again. Does the man not understand yet? He destroyed beautiful Oyster Bay already by making it look like some ugly road in an urban ghetto and he is coming after YOUR neighborhood next. NOW he wants to invite gamblers with the low class, bad ass people attendant in these organized things to Nassau County. So much for SAFETY. I bet you he is going to put in the Town of Hempstead because those people don't think anyone will ever vote them out of office. We already were pretty loud and clear and nobody wants a casino in Elmont -but I bet you they will put it there anyway. I will guarantee you - the villages of floral park, new hyde park, stewart manor and franklin square will sell their homes to illegal immigrants running drug rings and get the hell out of there if that happens. 3 more years of this guy - hopefully someone will find a connection between all the contracts being given to take down perfectly healthy trees for no damn reason and arrest his ass so he has to step down from office before he completely destroys our county.

HD took a lease on the building in 2004 to block Lowes which is how Lowes ended up in Hicksville. Then the talk (as recently as 2013 by Councilman Gary Hudes) was that HD might still move the East Meadow store there. Maybe the lease was 10 years which would have it ending now and someone threw a pile of money at someone to get the site for a casino. I still doubt it. Levittown has a negative history with the existing OTB and that Kmart corner has had 2 or 3 pedestrian and auto accident deaths in the last year. That spot will be a political nightmare if it's announced. The Nimby's and even non-nimbys will start a riot.

In Commack, they just built a Lowes at the end of last year that is less than 2 minutes away from Home Depot.

It makes no sense.
