How do you feel about this commute?
From home in Whitestone, Queens to white collar job in Bohemia, NY.
Leave home at 6 am. Return home at 3:30 or 4:00pm.
I did the mapquest but I want a real world evaluation. Place of work is off Veterans Highway.
Is one nuts to consider it! Moving from Queens not an option, just looking for commute.
Thanks in advance.

For those who may not be familiar with Bohemia
For those who may not be familiar with Bohemia:
Bohemia is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the east-central part of the Town of Islip, in the southwest part of Suffolk County.
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Bohemia in the Town of Islip is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Ronkonkoma; on the east by the Hamlet of Holbrook; on the south by the Hamlet of Sayville and the Hamlet of Oakdale; and, on the west by the Hamlet of North Great River and the Hamlet of Central Islip.
The Hamlet of Bohemia has a different border than does the "Bohemia, NY 11716" postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Bohemia, NY 11716" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Bohemia and a place can have other than a "Bohemia, NY 11716" mailing address and be in the Hamlet of Bohemia): places that have a "Bohemia, NY 11716" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Bohemia are in the Hamlet of Holbrook and the Hamlet of Sayville; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of Bohemia with an "Islip Terrace, NY 11752" mailing address.
For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County):

You'll be going in the opposite flow of most traffic and beat both rush hours. I think 40 minutes both ways is realistic, maybe a little more.

That's not so bad, that commute. Very doable because you will, for the most part, you'll be going the opposite way of most traffic & not really in the rush hour. You should do fine.
What is Whitestone like ? Is it nice there?

Leaving so early will be a benefit; as someone else also pointed out, you will be going against traffic, so that will help.
I lived in Whitestone from '96 to '05- I really miss it!

Bayside to N Massapequa (parkways only) took me 24-30 mins, off hours. North Massapequa to Bohemia (off Vets) Southern State to Sunrise to JOhnson Ave took me 25 mins off hours.
I'd estimate if you're coming in by way of the LIE you're looking at 45 mins No Traffic, realistically 50-55 mins. Depends on how fast you drive

There will be no traffic going at that time so about 45min. Probably a bit of traffic coming back so I would estimate 55min.
