Many reasons for not having another, attendance being one, and mostly because it lost money. As long as there's EPCOT I'll always be able to get some of that 64WF feeling.
The Story of the Fair - Page One (http://www.nywf64.com/fair_story.shtml - broken link)
The trick is to let batter sit 2 hours at room temperature not to cool the iron.
Cook the batter at room temp and fast .
This makes the waffles crunch outside tender inside
1/2 Tbs Yeast
1 1/2 cup warm water
1-3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/8 tsp salt
1/2 bottle of beer
1/4 stick butter
1 slightly beaten egg
1/2 tsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
(You add 1/4 tsp. nutmeg if you like it)
Mix flour, yeast, salt then add warm water to form a "sludge" then keep adding beer and the rest and beat till slick that just about slides off the beater
Let batter sit 2 hours at room temperature.
Butter up a hot HOT waffle iron and throw FAST on before the butter burns.

Yes, my Grandfather worked at the Ford Pavilion. At times he had to run out on the track with baseball bats to wedge between the car's to stop them from hitting each other.
Not only were exhibiters charged rent, they received and had to pay outrageous service fees from the many unions working the park.
"Rackiteer city as he called it"
In the 70’s some guy turned the New York State pavilion into a roller rink only to face these union cooks. They stormed the pavilion and almost beat him to death, took his dog and hung it from the meadow lake bridge.
Moses was a very debauched wicked man with an ego the size of Texas, compared to Hit-ler by many who worked under him with his endless use of imminent domain for anything that stood in his way.
(Much like the NYC Mayor today)

Has anyone stayed at the underwater hotel we were promised? LOL
The underground home is still there, bring a shovel and flashlight we can dig at night. The ceiling is about 20-30 inches down; When the fair closed they just bulldozed the top stuff, fountains and leveled with dirt and grass seed.
The company lost so much $$$ they said F*** Moses, Lindsay.
---- scooped up the top stuff covered it over and got the hell out of there.

Thank you so much for the wonderful post! I am in Charlotte, NC, and I like to read your forum . . . and found this tonite and just had to comment. My dad took us from NC to NYC for our first big trip to the city . . . for the world's fair. I will never forget it . . . a terrific way to be introduced to NYC.
Really enjoying reading the links.
