What are your folks opinions of above ground pools? Would you buy a house with one in the backyard?

Would you buy a house where neighbors backyards had them and you could see them from your house?

Would you feel the value of your house is in any way effected if a neighbor puts one up near your property line but within legal distance?

Just asking as I was surprised a lot of folks had strong opinions.

I would not buy a house with an existing. But when the time comes, I would have no problem installing one compared to the more expensive in ground pool.

My neighbor has one, who cares.

What is the neighborhood norm? If everyone has in ground pools then the other will stand out in a bad way if they are the norm then I see nothing wrong.

We looked at a few house a couple years ago with pools. We actually ended up purchasing a home with a deck, with an area that would lead into an above-ground pool, which we ended up installing the following year.

I think if everything is within the legal distance, what does it matter?

Why would it sway your choice in buying? Remove it if you don't want it.

For many years, having any pool at all was a big deal.
Now if you don't have an inground you might as well dig a hole in your yard and fill it with water. And forget about the Intex blow up pools...you might as well put a Camaro on cinder blocks on your front lawn.
Many people are even snubbing their nose at vinyl liner inground pools.
People suck.

I think they're a symbol of the working class. But I don't blame anyone on LI who chooses to get one, who wants to get raped in thousands of dollars in taxes every year for a damn hole in the ground?

Seriously, if you can't afford an inground pool then at least settle for a semi inground pool...many look just like inground pools and you don't have to pay any taxes on them

We put up a 4'x18' when girls were little. The next door neighbors installed an in ground pool a year or so later. All kids grew up and then both pools were never used. They still futz and pay for theirs. I walked around mine with a cordless drill ten yrs ago and made a fountain out of it. Then put an ad in CL....free aluminum...come take it down.
