I currently live in a split style home in massapequa . I want to dig down about a foot in my living area to the left as you walk into the house and also build more living space taking away part of the garage to open up the room . Split homes have low ceilings and it's starting to bother me . Is this possible ?do I need permit?thank you mason

Some split levels have a basement below the recreation room, and soaring ceilings. Sounds as though you have a different kind of split. Perhaps a front to back?

There are some great splits in East Norwich and Plainview.

Get an architect in and prepare to file for permits.

This sounds like my old house in N Massapequa.

Get an architect.

OR

Find a contractor you like first and then ask for his architect
