I am purchasing a home in Wheatley Heights for $199,000 but this home is not zoned for the Wheatley Heights school district (Half Hollow Hills) but the taxes on the home is $8,614. It is zoned to the Wyandanch school district. The house was sold in 2006 for $314,500. I believe the taxes were based on that purchase price.
I would like to grieve the taxes myself to lower them but I would like to know different grounds on which I can grieve them? Has anyone grieved taxes themselves in Babylon & won? How much were they lowered? Or is it better to have the professionals grieve it for you? Do they get it lowered more than a homeowner grieving it themself?
