Thanks in advance for any input, it is much appreciated. Considering as house in Garden City that is on Stewart Ave west of Nassau Blvd. I have 3 small children and my wife is concerned about the major street. How busy is that section of Stewart Ave? Should I avoid this house for the kids?
Steward Ave and Nassau Blvd is a busy street. Speed limit is 30 but I've seen cars go 40-60 In Stewart Ave. There are no police around to enforce speed limit and I've never seen GCP stop anyone. If your kids are planning to play outside, take them to St. Paul's Recreation Complex or GC Community Park. It will be dangerous to play in front of Stewart.
Train is nearby so that's nice if you need to go to the city.
You might hear the bells and train horns so that might be a negative.
Not only busy but the noise and dust... but I get that's not necessarily a concern if you're coming from the city.
I've lived on a busy street before - never again. If it were me with a budget concern leading to less desirable houses, I'd just find a slightly lesser town but better home for the kids.
Yes, that part of Stewart Ave in Garden City can be fairly busy. Not so much from a driver's point of view, but for young children. A car can easily pass every 15 sec throughout the day.
I wouldn't do it. Even though those houses are gorgeous. If you can afford one, you can afford something on a quieter GC street. It might be a little smaller, but to me it would be a no brainer to sacrifice some space for a quiet street, of which Garden City has many.
there are some good looking houses on that stretch of Stewart but I would avoid. Even if you didn't have young kids it's just not worth the hassle and overall vibe of having cars buzzing by your house all day.

wow, thanks for the comments, they are very valuable. It's overwhelmingly one-sided, any points of view from the other side?
there's really no benefits to it - only rationalizations, e.g. kids spend most of their time in the back yard or purchasing on a busy street gets you a bigger house or into the school district you prefer.
Ok, I'm convinced. So what are the streets to avoid? Is it basically any Avenue or Boulevard?
