Yes. There are rats. People don't like talking about it. They're not as brazen nor as large as their NYC cousins.
Years back, someone developed a vacant lot down the hill from my home. Everyone on my street had rats in their wood piles following that. One neighbor's garage housed his organic lawn business supplies -- they got into that. They got into my shed and shredded bags of grass seed. It was a mess and the impetus behind rescuing my first Jack Russell Terrier.
Maybe it's time to reintroduce the timber rattlesnake in LI for containing the rat population. That said, the county legislature seems to be full of snakes and rats anyway. LOL!
Upstate, I saw families of wild turkeys, hummingbirds, hawks and trout.
There have been unconfirmed reports of rattlesnakes in the pine barrens.
Officials will not confirm nor deny these sightings.
Probably afraid of a public panic.
We must be in spider season.... this nice one was in our backyard the other day... it made a really nice web... and I hope it caught lots of mosquitoes! :-)
I've never seen wild Turkeys (hiccup) on Long Island, just in Westchester where they are abundant. Do we have vultures here or just turkey vultures?
Plenty of eastern cotton tail rabbits and chipmunks
