Yeah but what other part of the US do people say they live "on"? Do people live "on" NYC? "On" New York?

Unfortunately if they built one here on LI there would be at least a two hour wait. We need at least four of them.
There was a Waffle House on Long Island for many years. It was on Long Beach Road in Oceanside near the Kindergarten Center. It went out of business in early 2000's Now a TD Bank there on that corner. Big plot.

People in Mahattan live 'in' NYC but also live 'on' Manhattan Island. I'd assume when referring any area that contains 'Island' in the name, living 'on' would be the preferable term versus living 'in'...

Wasn't there very long. And it wasn't a real authentic Waffle House.

I'm pretty sure most people say "in Staten Island"

I mean, with any island place I think both are correct, since you're on the geographic island but in the political boundaries of the island.

That place still comes up when I Google search "Waffle House"

Just asked my cube-mate (a Staten Island native) "where do you live?" And his response was "on Staten Island." He also confirmed that while he never really thought about it, "in Staten Island" sounds weird...
