Nimby's, someone please tell me how rooftop dining is such a scourge and public nuisance in Northport that it must be outlawed from the land. Holy crap, someone bothered by the 10 extra cars parking in the area for 2 hrs and the clinking of silverware?! WTF is happening here people?! Do we just want the whole Island to become Walgreens and check cashing stores?!
This is the most bizarre fight I have ever seen - Northport is absolutely hopping on weekends in the summer and has been since I was a kid going to the dollar movies there....I really do not get how banning rooftop dining (BTW, only the one restaurant has that capability, and why would you want to eat on anyone else's roof, Skipper's has the harbor view) solves any kind of non existent problem there. Someone pissed off the town council there.
Somebody might get too drunk and do a swan dive off the building.
Or even worse, incidents of multiple projectile vomiting over the side and down on to innocent bystanders below.
It's idiotic to ban it. Harbor views, good food, great atmosphere in an already bustling village. The owners probably refused to pay someone off in the village so their permit could be approved.

Agreed. This is LI, and everyone understands it's how they roll. The local bureaucrats should post a price list and simplify matters.
Which is funny since patchogue village allowed it. Rhum bar has a roof top bar. Why northport feels like it shouldnt be allowed and patchogue does is beyond me.
The sidewalk outside Skipper's is already crowded as crap with the sidewalk tables there, I would think the village would jump at the chance to get the tables off the thoroughfare and onto the roof.
